LONDON -- Milos Raonic and Frank Dancevic threw a one-two winning punch for Canada on Tuesday as the eighth seed and the lucky loser combined for a pair of first-round Wimbledon victories within minutes of each other. Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., fired 30 aces -- compared to two for his opponent -- in a comfortable 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 win over Australias Matthew Ebden that took little more than 90 minutes. It was a two-hour victory for the 107th-ranked Dancevic, who won his first Wimbledon match since 2011 as he upset 29th-seeded Croatian Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 7-6(5), 7-6(4). Raonic, who lost his only grass tuneup match this month at Halle, Germany, is into the Wimbledon second round for the fourth consecutive year, but hopes to go farther after never winning two matches in a row at the event. The 23-year-old was never in trouble from Ebden, with the Canadian claiming the first two sets and breaking for a lead in the third. Raonic sent over a service winner for three match points, but needed only one as he put a volley into the far corner out of Ebdens reach. "I feel really good about this win, I played a lot better than I expected to," said Raonic. "I showed that I can adjust my game on this surface," said the right-hander with a 10-10 career record on grass. "I did what was necessary to win. I think my Roland Garros quarter-final gave me confidence and showed me that I know what I need to do to win in these situations and eventually get into the second week of slams." Dancevic, a 29-year-old from Niagara Falls, Ont. has played in the main draw at the All England Club seven times and earned his third Wimbledon win as he overcame 32 Karlovic aces. Dancevic never faced a break point and broke the Croatian once. Dancevic advanced with 47 winners and just four unforced errors. "I had to serve really well, it was my main focus," said Dancevic. "But returning was a lottery, I was just guessing. "From the first point I had to pick sides. I returned amazing, From the first ten serves in a row I got ten returns back. It was basically a guessing game, when I got into the point, I had the advantage. It came down to a coin toss, I returned a little bit better on the key points." He entered the field as a lucky loser from qualifying round and won his first match at the ATP level since the U.S. open fist round over Robin Haase last August. "It feels great, I havent been on this grass while," Dancevic said. "I felt motivated by the whole atmosphere and being given a chance to be alive here at Winmbledon. I tried to play relaxed and go for my shots. "Im really, really happy I got through." In womens action Swiss Timea Bacsinszky beat Torontos Sharon Fichman 6-1, 6-3, with the 85th-ranked Canadian admitting she was outplayed. "Im starting to like the grass," said the 23-year-old who was making her main draw debut at the All England Club. "Unfortunately I didnt plays as well as I could have. "It didnt help that my opponent was playing very well, Its disappointing. I felt like I didnt bring a good enough level for most of the match and she did. It was pretty straightforward -- she played well and went for it, I tried and it just didnt work for me today." Womens 13th seed Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., faced veteran Daniela Hantuchova later. Nike Vapormax In Offerta . The 33-year-old Spaniard, who held the lead since the second round, turned in a solid final round that featured six birdies and two bogeys to finish on 22-under 266. The victory is Garcias first this year with his last win coming at the Johor Open, an Asian Tour event in Malaysia last December. Vapormax Miglior Prezzo . - Andre Drummond had his best night on the boards.OAKLAND, Calif. - The Golden State Warriors too often let lesser competition keep games close — and allowed a few of them to slip away — on their home court last season. That doesnt appear to be a problem anymore. The Warriors eased past the struggling Sacramento Kings 128-108 on Monday night, the kind of all-around performance that has defined their strong start under new coach Steve Kerr. All 13 active players scored, including six in double digits. The reserves had a season-high 62 points. And the team totalled 36 assists, the franchises most in four years. These are the fun games when everybody gets in there and scores and feels good afterward, Kerr said. There have been a lot of those for Golden State already.Klay Thompson scored 25 points, reserve Justin Holiday had 18 and Festus Ezeli added a career-high 15 points to go with six rebounds in place of injured centre Andrew Bogut, helping the Warriors hold a big lead most of the way.Stephen Curry also had 12 points and 11 assists — and got to rest most of the fourth quarter — as Golden State stretched its NBA-best record to 23-3.We have to learn to share the ball better, the way they do. We have to move it side to side, like they do, said Kings forward Omri Casspi, who had 16 points and eight rebounds.DeMarcus Cousins had 22 points and eight rebounds, and Darren Collison scored 17 points in Sacramentos latest blowout loss to its Northern California rival. The Warriors whipped the Kings 95-77 on opening night in Sacramento and have won six consecutive games in the series, including all four last season.Sacramento has lost 11 of 14 games, a slide that started when Cousins came down with viral meningitis and missed 10 games. The Kings also fired Michael Malone as coach last week, and uncertainty about how long interim coach Tyrone Corbin will man the sidelines has lingered since. We all need to stick together, Corbin said. The Warriors got off to a fast start and controlled the game by doing what they have most of the sseason: clog the paint on defence, push the pace and move the ball.dddddddddddd.They led 36-20 at the end of the first quarter, 76-53 early in the third and — except for a few short-lived surges by Sacramento — kept a comfortable cushion throughout.Perhaps just as important for the Warriors was the return of David Lee, who played for only the second time this season and first since Nov. 5. He had six points on 3-for-9 shooting and seven rebounds in 16 minutes, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd when he entered as a reserve late in the first quarter.Lee admitted he felt some nerves returning to a team that has done so well without him.I was definitely the most excited guy in the NBA to play basketball tonight, Lee said. I havent been nervous for a game in five years.Lee had been out recovering from a strained left hamstring, which forced him to leave after 6 1/2 minutes in his previous appearance against the Los Angeles Clippers. Kerr said the two-time All-Star forward responded well to conversations about coming off the bench, which Lee confirmed.Draymond Green has played exceptional as the starter, and Kerr sees no reason to change what has worked — which has been just about everything this season.___TIP-INSKings: Sacramento had 31 assists and 13 turnovers. ... Sacramento dropped to 10-8 with Cousins in the lineup this season.Warriors: Bogut underwent a second platelet-rich plasma therapy over the weekend on his right knee. He will likely be out at least another week or two. ... It was the most assists for the Warriors since dishing out 36 in a 132-102 win over the Clippers on Feb. 10, 2010.SUPRISE REUNIONStaff Sgt. Nikki Castle was reunited with her young son, Makio Cabales, between the first and second quarter on the court. Makio was asked to participate in a contest as her mother walked onto the court to surprise him that she had returned from Afghanistan.UP NEXTKings: Host Phoenix on Friday.Warriors: At Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. Torontos Drew MacIntyre kicked out 38-of-43 shots in a losing cause. Ritchie opened the scoring at 14:51 of th first period for Texas. Abbott responded for the Marlies 31 seconds into the second, but McKenzie and Mueller scored 23 seconds apart to make it 3-1 Stars and Morin added another before the period was through. Ashton kept it close for Toronto by scoring at 16:10 of the third period, but any chance of a comeback was halted when Hedden made it 5-2 only 46 seconds later. Texas went 1 for 2 on the power play while Toronto failed to score on three chances with the man advantage. Diego Reyes Jersey . Tomas Tatar scored twice for Red Wings (2-3-0), Jonathan Ericsson added a goal and Gustav Nyquist had three assists. Mexico Jerseys . -- The NFL cancelled its Hall of Fame game between St.ST. PETERSBURG, Florida – Drew Hutchison meant business when he arrived in Dunedin for spring training. He had a point to prove: hes back, and hes not worried about his surgically repaired elbow, as he enters what he hopes will be his first full season in the major leagues. "I expected make the team and now Im ready to go perform," said Hutchison after his final Grapefruit League start on March 27. Manager John Gibbons and pitching coach Pete Walker rave about Hutchisons poise. They love his mound presence. Theyve been thrilled with his bounce back from Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery dating back to his appearances in the Arizona Fall League. Hutchison, a command and control pitcher, routinely pumped his fastball to the plate at 92-94 miles per hour, painting the corners along the way. "We like him," said manager John Gibbons. "Hes got a chance to be a real good one. Ever since he had the Tommy John hes thrown better than he was." Results in spring training often dont matter. With Hutchison, they did. He was competing for a roster spot. He needed to show the Blue Jays he was healthy and could be consistently effective. As a young player, just 23 years old, with options, he needed to drastically outperform veterans who were out of options. He accomplished all that with a 1.80 ERA and 0.800 WHIP in four Grapefruit League starts, and gets the nod in Tuesday nights second game of the season-opening series in Tampa Bay. Not that it surprises him. "I thought Id come into camp and do exactly what I did," said Hutchison. "Thats my expectation levell and thats what I feel I would be able to do.dddddddddddd" Hutchison often repeats variations of the word "expect." He has high expectations of himself, he expects to succeed; hes expecting a long and healthy career. He speaks with supreme confidence but without a hint of arrogance. Its all matter of fact. "I dont understand, at least from my perspective thats just the way Ive approached things and thats the way Ive always been," said Hutchison. "I expect that out of myself and now its time, spring trainings over and its time to go perform and win because thats what its all about." Whether Hutchisons approach translates into a successful season will be known only with the passage of time. Gibbons and Walker are looking for someone on which they can rely. The club has a reasonable idea of what to expect from R.A. Dickey and Mark Buehrle. It isnt clear what the Blue Jays will get from Hutchison and Brandon Morrow, both because of their respective injury histories and because neither has shown the ability, yet, to be a front-line starter over the course of a full season. "Hes a pitcher," said Gibbons. "It takes effort for him but hes kind of an effortless type guy. I think hes going to have a big, big year for us. I really do." Surely Hutchison must have had his doubts during the laborious rehab of his elbow? He insists he didnt. "Thats just the way Ive always been," said Hutchison. "I just expect a lot out of myself and I expect a high level from myself. Thats not to try to be, you know, thats just how I am." ' ' '

Campaigning for Carl I hadnt heard the expression "crafting a campaign" until Michael Davies of the excellent "Men In Blazers" podcast used it to describe his beloved Chelsea, and the manner in which Jose Mourinho engineered his Blues through the nitty gritty of a long Premiership season.  In the rigours of MLS, successful teams have managed their schedule carefully, and even though its early, Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson has already shown signs of recognizing the details of that process. Some might have been surprised Thursday when Robinson told TEAM 1040 radio in Vancouver that skipper Jay DeMerit had been left home to rest so early in the season. But for Robinson, the marathon is as grueling in March as it will be in September. Hes comfortable enough in his squad that well likely see more players left home for longer trips. Flying straight back to Vancouver right after the 0-0 draw with New England allowed players to get home on Saturday night and enjoy two full days off after what has been a taxing, air mile-accumulating couple of months.   From a point gathering perspective, the new Whitecaps boss has also exhibited some proactive substitutions and game management during critical moments in his first three matches. Pedro Morales was brought on in the 65th minute of season opener, which effectively killed the game off. At Chivas, Robinson brought on Kekuta Manneh with enough time to rescue a point. And in New England, with a point in his back pocket, he gave Gershon Koffie a long-awaited introduction which infused a tiring team with some bite and balance to lock down that first clean sheet of the season.   Crafting a campaign Those little decisions dont always work. But they did for Caleb Porter, the reigning MLS coach of the year with Portland. The well-travelled Timbers were a team that foraged for every point - especially away from home, where they didnt win a lot of games, but gathered enough draws (or avoided defeat enough) to help reach the Western Conference summit. Many lamented two points lost for Vancouver at an undermanned and unfairly disregarded Chivas team. Some even expected the Whitecaps to beat a New England squad that hadnt won, nor scored after two weeks. But in Carl Robinsons mind, his team earned a point despite a poor performance in LA, and a clean sheet after a nine-hour travel day against a desperate New England team stuck on no goals after two games. Maybe we should start calling the Whitecaps coach a "campaign" manager. Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal need to win all of their remaining games to have any chance of winning the Premier League. The Gunners 4-0 thumping of Watford on Saturday lifted them to eight points behind leaders Leicester with seven games left to play. And Carragher says anything less than a 100 per cent finish to the season will not be enough for Arsene Wengers side. I think Arsenal have to win every single game if theyve got any chance, Carragher said on Saturday Night Football. Leicester would still have to lose three games, they could if the nerves kick in and there are tough games at the end of the season. But can Arsenal win every game? Leicester are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League Fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp added: Its uncharted territory not just for Leicester but Tottenham. Are Arsenal back in the equation now? Youd have to say yes.Redknapp also believes that if Leicester can beat Southampton at the King Power Stadium on Super Sunday, the title will be there for the taking after Tottenham slipped up against Liverpool. If Leicester win you have to think they have to win the title, its theirs to lose, he said. But you cant rule Tottenham or Arsenal out. Tottenham striker Harry Kane (right) celebrates after scoring against Liverpool Carragher also insisted that he fully expects Leicester to win the league from here.People still cant quite believe Leicester are going to win the Premier League, he said.If Arsenal were in that position, or Manchester United, Chelsea or teams youd associate with winning the league, youd say its over. [People will] just expect Leicester to throw it away. I dont know why when theyve only lost three games and are doing things that title winners do like winning games 1-0. I fully expect them to go on and win the title. Washington Nationals Jerseys . Sandro Rosell is facing a lengthy legal battle after a judge in Madrid ruled on Wednesday he will hear a lawsuit that alleges the real cost of Neymars transfer from Santos last year was hidden. "I dont want unfair attacks to negatively affect (the) management or the image of the club. This is why I think my time here has come to an end," Rosell said, while insisting for a second time this week that the deal to bring Neymar to Barcelona was legal. Neymar, who is the poster boy of Brazils team going into the World Cup on home soil in June, joined for 57 million euros (then $74 million) in June, according to Rosell. The legal action, which was brought by club member Jordi Cases, alleges the real cost of Neymars transfer was closer to 95 million euros ($129 million) and that false contracts hid the real value of the move. The criminal offence of misappropriation of funds is punishable by up to six years in prison. The 49-year-old Rosell, a former Nike executive, said confidentiality agreements prevented Barcelona from revealing the exact amount received by Santos, and the three companies -- DIS, TEISA and N&N -- who owned shares of his rights. The lawsuit does not accuse Rosell of taking money from the deal. The case prompted Barcelonas board to call an emergency meeting, and Rosell announced he was quitting after more than two hours of deliberations. The transfer controversy is a blot on the reputation of a Catalan football institution that has long prided itself on being "more than a club" and is owned by its more than 160,000 members, who elect a president and executive board. And Barcelona, while top of the Spanish league, enters a period of uncertainty as it seeks to retain its domestic title and win the Champions League for the first time since 2011. Rosell, who was elected in 2010, said vice-president Josep Bartomeu will take his place and complete the pressidential term that expires in 2016.dddddddddddd Under three full seasons of Rosells presidency, Barcelona maintained its winning run started under Joan Laporta with another two Spanish league trophies to go with the Champions League title in 2011 and the Copa del Rey in 2012. Rosell said he was leaving to reduce the stress on him and his family and lamented what he described as attacks from both outside and within the club, despite its continued success on the pitch. "Through this period of success, my family and I have suffered attacks that have made me wonder if being president means putting my family at risk and in anguish," Rosell said. As he resigned, Rosell trumpeted his role in ensuring "the best players in the world wear the Barcelona jersey." Rosell oversaw the signing of Neymar, Cesc Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez, Javier Mascherano, Jordi Alba, and Alex Song to further strengthen a team built around star forward Lionel Messi. Messi himself is going through his own legal difficulties. The Argentina forward and his father, Jorge, are waiting to hear if they will face charges in a tax fraud case after answering a judges questions last year about allegations they avoided 4 million euros ($5.3 million) in back taxes. Rosell steered Barcelona through uncertainty last season when treatment for throat cancer kept coach Tito Vilanova away for several months. Vilanova had to step down at the end of last season through ill health and Gerardo Martino was brought in to take charge. But while helping to establish Barcelona as Europes most successful team, Rosell also upset some members by putting paying sponsors on the front of Barcas shirts for the first time by striking deals with Qatar Foundation and Qatar Airways. Rosell has faced accusations about his business dealings away from the Camp Nou, with accusations in Brazil he illegally benefited from a friendly organized by his marketing company in 2008. By leaving his powerful job at Barcelona, Rosell also loses seats on influential committees within world football on FIFA and UEFA. ' ' '

OAKLAND, Calif. -- When the Golden State Warriors signed free agent Andre Iguodala this summer, most figured that meant Harrison Barnes would be coming off the bench. Think again. Klay Thompson had 17 points and four rebounds playing his second straight preseason game as a reserve in Golden States 94-81 win over the Sacramento Kings on Monday night, while Barnes started alongside Iguodala again. Thompson finished 8 for 17 from the field in 30 minutes. Barnes missed all four shots he took and had one rebound in 6 minutes before sitting the rest of the game with inflammation in his left foot. Warriors coach Mark Jackson said his starting lineup will shuffle throughout the preseason, which includes two exhibitions in China against the Los Angeles Lakers. He said whatever lineup he uses in the regular-season opener Oct. 30 against Los Angeles will be a set rotation that will not fluctuate depending on matchups. The decision will not be determined by who is the best player. "Its what makes us the best team. Its what completes us as a team," Jackson said. "What units starting, which guy coming off the bench, to me, thats key. "I dont think any team I played on, it wasnt necessarily the best five players starting. Sometimes you needed different things off the bench that completed us as a team. And Ill look at all of those things and make a decision." The call between Barnes and Thompson is the only major one Jackson will have to make before the season. The third-year coach believes choosing between two proven players is a blessing and not a burden. All five starters -- Thompson, Barnes, Stephen Curry, David Lee and Andrew Bogut -- are back from a team that won 47 games last season before beating the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs and losing to the eventual Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs in six games. Iguodala turned down Denvers offer and signed a four-year, $48 million deal with the Warriors. While Jackson didnt rule out Iguodala coming off the bench, that scenario seems unlikely given the veterans contract and abilities. What makes the decision difficult is that Thompson and Barnes lack experience in a reserve role. Thompson played 37 games as a reserve during the 2011-12 season, his rookie year. He has started 122 straight games, including the playoffs. Barnes never came off the bench as a rookie last season. Both former first-round draft picks said they have no problem wherever and whenever they play -- so long as they still have a significant role. Thompson even joked with reporters after Mondays morning shootaround that hes "trying to get Sixth Man of the Year." Thompson has clearly been the better of the two so far, though its a small sample size -- and the preseason. Barnes scored 10 points on 3-of-14 shooting, had seven rebounds and three assists in Saturdays 104-95 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Thompson scored 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting in 37 minutes off the bench in that game. He added one rebound. Against Sacramento, Barnes was replaced midway through the first quarter with the Warriors down 16-8. He has been dealing with the nagging foot injury for a few days and will likely sit out at Utah on Tuesday night, Jackson said. Thompson started the second half and highlighted a 14-3 spurt with a breakaway dunk on a pass from Curry that put the Warriors up 58-52 late in the third quarter. "No matter when Klays playing, hes going to be effective," Curry said. Curry scored 23 points and Lee had 14 points and 13 rebounds to help the Warriors build a 16-point lead with 4:33 remaining. Iguodala finished with seven points, five steals, three assists and three rebounds in about 32 minutes. Both coaches began putting in fringe players and the only other noteworthy item of the night left was whether new Kings owner Vivek Ranadive would be a winner in his debut, which also came on his 56th birthday. Currys younger brother, former Duke standout Seth Curry, also made a 3-pointer at the final buzzer to draw cheers from what remained of the announced crowd of 17,821. Isaiah Thomas had 15 points and six assists and DeMarcus Cousins added nine points and four rebounds as Sacramento fell short. The Kings have had seven straight losing seasons and far more modest expectations in the early stages of their rebuilding. "Our reasonable expectation is to compete, play hard, be unselfish and defend," Malone said. "Im not going to put any amount of wins or numbers on that because that would be unfair to this team." The Yankees starting rotation is a mess; Scott Cullen has notes on Michael Pineda, CC Sabathia, Matt Wieters, Brandon Belt, Adam LaRoche and more. INJURIES - Good thing for the Yankees that their Japanese pitchers, Hiroki Kuroda and Masahiro Tanaka, have been able to stay healthy. The rest of the starting rotation has already hit the DL. With Ivan Nova alread out for the season, RHP Michael Pineda was suspended for that whole Pine Tar thing, then suffered a strined muscle in his side that will likely keep him out until some time in June. Adding to those troubles, LHP CC Sabathia found out that he has fluid on his knee, requiring him to go to the DL too. RHP David Phelps has already joined the rotation, delivering mediocre results (4.35 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 4 K, 10 1/3 IP) in a couple of starts. Journeyman RHP Alfredo Aceves (1.98 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 14 K, 13 2/3 IP at AAA) is a decent bet to get a chance as a starter and, checking out their other options at Triple-A, 24-year-old RHP Chase Whitley (3-2, 2.49 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 32 K, 25 1/3 IP) has been really good and might be ready for a look. - Orioles C Matt Wieters is out with a strained right elbow, opening up room for Steve Clevenger to see more action for the next couple weeks. Clevenger has a .778 OPS in 46 plate appearances this year, but his major league career consists of 1 HR, 23 RBI, .213 AVG (.578 OPS) in 268 AB. Not much to get excited about at this point. - Giants 1B Brandon Belt was off to a nice start (9 HR, 18 RBI, .264 AVG, 18 R, 3 SB, .820 OPS), but has suffered a broken thumb that will keep him out six weeks. With C Buster Posey available to play first, that leaves more playing time for C Hector Sanchez and veteran utility man Joaquin Arias. - Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez has a strained hamstring, which is resulting in Mark Reynolds moving across the diamond to third, and Lyle Overbay taking over at first base for Reynolds. Since the start of 2013, Overbay has hit 15 home runs with a .240 batting average in 513 at-bats. - Rangers 2B Donnie Murphy has landed on the DL with a strained neck and with Jurickson Profar already out, top prospect Rougned Odor gets the call for Texas. Odor is just 20-years-old, so this may be just a chance to get a taste of the big leagues, but he has hit .293 with 12 home runs and an .825 OPS in 263 Double-A at-bats since getting promoted last season. Right now, hes just a player to watch. - Nationals 1B Adam LaRoche has gone on the DL with a strained quad, and the Nats have brought Tyler Moore back from the minors. Moore has shown some power (16 HR, 53 RBI, .236 AVG, .713 OPS) in 356 careerat-bats, and destroys Triple-A pitching (19 HR, 72 RBI, .306 AVG, .975 OPS, 281 AB), so the chance to play regularly could provide some decent results. GOOD ADDS (Available in at least 40% of TSN leagues) Alcides Escobar, SS, Kansas City - 2 HR, 15 RBI, .276 AVG, 18 R, 127 AB (Available: 51.4%) Jedd Gyorko, 2B, San Diego - 5 HR, 19 RBI, .262 AVG, 11 R, 136 AB (Available: 51.5%) Gerardo Parra, RF, Arizona - 4 HR, 13 RBI, .275 AVG, 24 R, 160 AB (Available: 81.8%) A.J. Pollock, CF, Arizona - 3 HR, 7 RBI, .278 AVG, 14 R, 5 SB, 108 AB (Available: 98.6%) Seth Smith, LF, San Diego - 3 HR, 14 RBI, .330 AVG, 14 R, 106 AB (Available: 93.0%) Dillon Gee, RHP, N.Y. Mets - 3-1, 2.73 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 33 K, 52 2/3 IP (Available: 41.8%) Josh Beckett, RHP, Los Angeles - 0-1, 2.80 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 34 K, 35 1/3 IP (Available: 73.2%) Tom Koehler, RHP, Miami - 3-2, 1.99 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 29 K, 45 1/3 IP (Available: 76.0%) CLOSER NOTES - Reds LHP Aroldis Chapman returned to action, with 100 MPH fastballs, to close out Colorado Sunday, so Jonathan Broxton returns to the eighth inning role for the Reds. - Indians RHP John Axford surrendered five earned runs in three innings over his last four appearances and hes been bumped from the closers role, with the Tribe turning to a committee approach. RHP Bryan Shaw and RHP Cody Allen are the best options, with perhaps a slight edge to Shaw right now. - Angels RHP Ernesto Frieri pitched well enough after losing the closers role that hes now eligible for ninth-inning work again, splitting save duties with Joe Smith. - RHP Jeurys Familia may be next in line to close for the New York Mets. Its been up in the air since Bobby Parnell was injured, but Familia may be able to usurp Kyle Farnsworth. Cheap Jerseys .com) - The fading Ottawa Senators have a chance to make up some ground in the playoff race on Tuesday night as they play host to the New York Rangers. Wholesale Jerseys . The Redskins announced Monday that the quarterback who led the team to the Super Bowl championship in the 1987 season will serve as a personnel executive.CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Panthers coach Ron Rivera doesnt foresee any changes to the coaching staff or roster following his teams latest lopsided loss. The answers are in the locker room, in the classroom and on the coaching staff, the coach said. However, while the Panthers continue searching for those solutions time is running out on a forgettable season.Carolina (3-8-1) entered Sundays game at Minnesota in control of its own playoff destiny in the NFC South, but played uninspired football in the cold and allowed the Vikings to return two blocked punts for touchdowns in a 31-13 loss.Riveras preseason goal of posting back-to-back winning season for the first time in franchise history wont happen. And while the Panthers remain mathematically alive in the weak NFC South, a seven-game winless streak suggests the chances of running the table in December are highly unlikely.Carolina ranks 27th in the league in points scored, while allowing the third-most points in the league. Its special teams rank near the bottom of nearly every statistical category in the NFL and has allowed three returns for touchdowns.Struggling quarterback Cam Newton said after Sundays loss he was concerned the Panthers are losing their swagger. When we keep trying to point and find excuses, were going to keep getting those types of results, Newton said. It will start by all 11 guys on that field taking full responsibility and accepting coaching and getting better.Linebacker A.J. Klein said the only thing the Panthers can do now is look ahead. If we dwell on this and dont move forward thats just going to eat away at the team and grow like a cancer — so you just try and stay positive, Klein said.It might help too if the Panthers start faster.Carolina has been outscored 178-85 in the first half, and has held a lead for only 140 minutes, 54 seconds of the 735 minutes it has played this season, per STATS.Rivera continues to call Newton the teams quarterback of the future, even though hes in a massive slump that includes at least one interception in eight straight games.dddddddddddd Newton hasnt had much help from a young offensive line assigned to protect him. Hes been under siege in the pocket, sacked 25 times in the last six games.Rivera said Monday there are various reasons for the teams demise following a 12-4 season last year, but said he didnt want to dwell on the negative. He said the goal is finish strong and win the final four games. The Panthers travel to New Orleans on Sunday, return home to face Tampa Bay and Cleveland, and finish the season the road at Atlanta. It will test our character, Rivera said.Rivera seems content to ride out the schedule with the coaches and players he has rather than making any changes. Were not going to doing anything kneejerk, Rivera said. Were going to go through the process. A year ago it was good enough, and now its not. We have to find out why, and what happened. We believe we know and now we have to correct it. Its not like we dont know what happening. ... (But) you dont give up on something just because something negative happens. If we did we would be a nation of quitters. And I aint quitting on us.In the meantime, the Panthers are turning more and more to young players like cornerback Bene Benwikere, safety Tre Boston, offensive tackle Mike Remmers and wide receivers Philly Brown and DeAndre Presley.Rivera insisted that isnt about playing for next season, but rather putting the best players on the field that give the team the best chance to win.If it happens that were putting a younger guy on the field then so be it, Rivera said.NOTES: Rivera said DeAngelo Williams broke a bone in his right hand on Sunday, but said the 31-year-old running back should be able to play Sunday at New Orleans if the swelling subsides.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '

It is amazing what the NFL Draft has become and what it has evolved into over time. For those who remember many years ago, the National Football League draft was more of a gathering of decision-makers with very few evaluating the very many and in many ways, hoping the decisions they make are correct. Now it is an investment that demands a performance dividend and if the dividend does not max out consistently on the football field, people lose jobs and revenue is lost. And these are well paying jobs and high revenue amounts. It is true that finding football players is 50 per cent science and 50 per cent art bordering on pure luck. Maybe that is why it is so entertaining because there really is no common denominator for draft success. Even the best in the business have missed big time on players and groups of players among the various years of evaluating. Some people in football are better than others but if you follow it close enough, not by much. No one really dominates in finding talent year after year.   For Seattle in recent years, Richard Sherman as a fifth round pick and Russell Wilson as a third round pick made the team special. But last year was completely different with fifth round pick and Canadian Luke Willson as well as Michael Bowie in the seventh round really being major contributors. It was a great move to trade #1 for Percy Harvin but you cant say last years draft was as good as previous drafts.             So what is everyone looking for? With all the scouts in all blocks of the country, the coaches who should always have an influence and the managers who have extreme job security if they draft well and no security if they dont, that is a great question. I think there are tangibles and intangibles. The tangible is how the player plays based on film analysis and competition. Truth is, to make good football decisions, all you need is enough good video and a good one-on-one interview. Everything else from the combine and individual workouts is icing on the cake. But sometimes that icing is so good it clouds decisions that could have been made without the "extra look", without pads and looking at movement more than actual on-field football ability. Many people in football become seduced by the visual in-person vs. the true reality of what happens on the field. The tangible "stuff" is easy to assess. It is the intangibles when the art takes over the science and sometimes is merely common sense. I think there are two words that make the difference in all drafting in football: maturity and passion. Maturity is really hard to recognize. Some players in the interview process pass with extreme confidence but when they make money and have to be completely self-motivated are anything but. In other situations, a player may have a criminal record or been involved in "stupid college stuff", then when they achieve wealth and independence, they change for the good. They grow up when you had to wonder if they would ever grow up. Some people are born with maturity on and off the field. Others create it at a certain moment for certain reasons and others yet never find it and it takes a possible great career and changes it to an experience. Having maturity is critical in every way and is difficult to assess correctly. The second intangible is passion. How much does the particular player actually like, even love, football? Now you would think all players love, or at least like, football. Not so. There is so much money in the sport now that playing for money is an easy motivation. By the time you reach your second contract, you could be set for life. Lets say you are 26 years-old, house and car paid off, money in the bank, happily married, success on the field with maybe even a Super Bowl or two. Why play any more football when you know what it does to your body and in some cases your mind? Only after the money is made does the football desire increase or diminish. Until that happens, you just dont know. Every football player will tell every team they LOVE football. But do they love football or do they love what football will get you and what you can purchase? Again just like maturity, you really dont know until time moves on. Come May 8-10, many of the very best will have their life changed in one phone call. For some, it will be a life changing moment that they will capitalize on in a remarkable way. For others, the sport at the pro level will be too much, whether it is due to competition or intensity. Which player will experience which life is an unknown. It may be due to height, weight, speed and everything you can see feel and touch. Or it may be because of how much you want it and how well you can adjust and handle it; a certain mental ability and a certain emotional ability that you can tap into. Between the best athlete with really good video and the lesser athlete, whos maybe not as dominant on the field but has his act together and loves the game, Ill take the latter. Welcome to the NFL draft starting May 8th, a gamble of research and a gamble of hope. LOS ANGELES, Calif. - A former intern for the Los Angeles Clippers is accusing the team and its owners, the Sterling Family Trust, of violating labour laws by not paying its interns. In a federal class action lawsuit filed Tuesday, former intern Frank Cooper says he was never paid although he worked 40 to 50 hours per week. For two months in 2012, Cooper worked in the NBA teams fan relations department, where he made calls to season-ticket holders and helped organize basketball clinics. The lawsuit seeks back pay, damages, and attorneys fees for Cooper and other Clippers interns, according to his lawyer, Maurice Pianko. PARIS - Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi wants Brandao to be banned for life after the Bastia striker headbutted Thiago Motta at the end of a French league match on Saturday. After Bastias 2-0 loss to PSG, Brandao waited for Thiago Motta in the tunnel and headbutted the midfielder, leaving him with blood running down from his nose. Al-Khelaifi said the Italian had a broken nose, although the club had not disclosed any injury details. Brandao immediately ran away toward his teams dressing room before PSG players could surround him. Al-Khelaifi told BeIn Sport television that "he must be banned for life." Neither player was in the locker room after the game, but Chiefs coach Andy Reid said both of them will have MRI exams on Monday. Kansas City plays the Denver Broncos, who beat them a week ago, in their crucial return game at Arrowhead Stadium next Sunday. "Im not making excuses," Reid said. "The next guy has to come in and step up." The Chargers (5-6) similarly could be without top running back Ryan Mathews for a while after he left the game with a hamstring injury. San Diego coach Mike McCoy did not disclose the severity of the injury after the game, though Ronnie Brown and Danny Woodhead fared well in relief. Houston was hurt while chasing down a play when Chiefs safety Eric Berry collided with his right arm. Houston was eventually helped off the field, his right arm kept motionless, and helped to the locker room in the waning minutes of the first half. Hali rolled his ankle while trying to get into the Chargers backfield earlier in the second quarter. He was helped from the field, loaded onto a cart and also taken to the locker room. "Its hard to think about it during the game because you have to move on to the next play, but its always tough losing that calibre of players," Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers said. "We have players that are backing them up that are more than capable of doing the job.dddddddddddd" Still, Frank Zombo and Dezman Moses arent quite as effective as Houston and Hali, and their absence was felt in the second half. Philip Rivers had plenty of time and wound up throwing for 392 yards and three touchdowns, the last one to Seyi Ajirotutu with 24 seconds left in the game. It was the eighth and final lead change in a wild game. "We just have to buckle down," Chiefs safety Eric Berry said. "You dont have those guys coming off the edge with that relentless force. We have guys who can step in and play, but we just know as a defence and a secondary we have to bring it." Houston came into the game third in the NFL with 11 sacks, while Hali was tied for fifth with nine. Hali needed two more to pass Art Still (73) for the third most in franchise history. The Chiefs, who had been healthy most of the season, already were playing without starting defensive tackle Mike DeVito because of a knee injury. Allen Bailey replaced him in the lineup. Right guard Jon Asamoah (calf and shoulder) and right tackle Eric Fisher (shoulder) also were inactive after getting hurt in last weeks loss to Denver. Asamoah was replaced by Geoff Schwartz and Fisher by Donald Stephenson in the starting lineup. "This is the National Football League. So when people go down, others step up," Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson said. "We didnt execute the defence as well as we should have. Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre vacated his title in December, a month after a controversial split decision victory over Johny Hendricks.  It is a decision that has allowed the Canadian MMA star to find a little peace in his life. "Im very happy, Im sleeping better, I dont regret anything," said St-Pierre to TSN.ca. "Im very happy with the decision I made." The time away from the cage has allowed the Saint-Isidore, Quebec native to focus on other interests. During the Sochi 2014 Olympics, St-Pierre put his money where his mouth is regarding the Canadian mens hockey team. He made a jersey bet with one of his friends during the Canada vs. USA semifinal game and one with UFC light-heavyweight number one contender Alexander Gustafsson, a native of Arboga, Sweden, over the gold medal game. St-Pierres belief in the Canadian national hockey team never wavered and was rewarded. "I was confident enough to make the bet," said St-Pierre. "I was happy that I won." As for representing Canada on an international stage, St-Pierre sees himself a little different than those athletes that wore the maple leaf during the Olympics. "My sport is not a team sport, I dont represent a county and I have fans around the world," said St-Pierre.  "I try to present a good image for anyone that looks up to me wherever they are from. Im doing it for myself and my fans." At UFC 171 Hendricks, who narrowly lost to St-Pierre in what was also his last bout, will take on Robbie Lawler for the vacated welterweight title.  The former champ will be a very interested observer. "Im going to watch the fight because its a fight I want to see and its going to be a good fight." As for picking a favourite, GSP gives a slight edge to the last man he faced before turning over the title. "Striking wise they both have the capacity to knock each other out.  Ill give the edge to Hendricks because he has an edge in the wrestling and grappling." Jesse Barfield Jersey . Hamlin let Sam Hornish Jr. drive his car last weekend at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., after he sought the assistance of the on-site medical team when his face swelled up and his vision blurred. Initially thought to be a sinus infection, it turned out to be a small piece of metal in his eye, Hamlin said at Martinsville Speedway. Hamlin said he doesnt blame the two doctors who examined him for failing to see the rusting metal, and it wasnt until he saw an optometrist that it was discovered, removed, and he started feeling better. "It took someone who was in the business of eyes to find it," he said. Hamlin has been cleared to return this weekend at Martinsville Speedway, where he has won four times, and he took umbrage at the notion that his reputation might have been tarnished when he missed the race. "People who think negatively of me or think that we side-stepped some sort of drug test or something is ridiculous," he said, adding that he was making an effort not to get angry at the suggestion that something untoward was afoot. "Im in one of the top-tthree cars in NASCAR.ddddddddddddI would have to be an absolute moron — moron — to risk that." Dale Earnhardt Jr., who originally said he was concerned about Hamlins point of view about how he wound up being told he couldnt race, said his concern wasnt for the medical teams competency, but for his fellow driver. "I feel great about the process and what NASCAR has had in place for years," Earnhardt said. NASCAR travels with two registered nurses who have access to each drivers medical records each week, and tracks work with local doctors and hospitals to staff a full trauma unit when cars are on the track. Hamlin, 34, said hes frustrated by spending so much time answering medical questions. The Fontana race was where he sustained a broken back a year ago, and he rushed back into competition hoping to make the playoffs, but came up short. "I feel better than I ever have," he said. "Pilates has changed my life as far as my back is concerned. My back is no longer an issue — knock on wood. Everything — you hate getting attention for those reasons, but a lot of it is because we havent won a whole lot over these last year and a half. RENTON, Wash. - Almost every day during training camp and often during the season, Dan Quinn would put on large padded gloves and essentially go through a sparring session with the Seattle Seahawks defensive linemen as they warmed up for practice working on pass rushing techniques.Once Quinn got into the position of being a defensive co-ordinator — after years of working as a position coach — he was not going to become someone who watched and coached from afar. This is a people business. We love the Xs and Os but the Jimmys and the Joes are what make this thing go, Seattle defensive backs coach Kris Richard said. His ability to capture people and make them feel exactly what they are. You have worth. You have value. So he values you, which is awesome.Quinns name has been the most talked about in coaching circles since the end of the regular season because of the job hes done as Seattles defensive co-ordinator the past two seasons. All signs point to Quinn becoming the next head coach in Atlanta after having a second interview with the Falcons the day after the NFC championship victory over Green Bay.When asked about the second interview Falcons this week, Quinn said he appreciated all the opportunities hes had and then channeled his own version of Marshawn Lynch. Thanks for asking, he said with a grin. But before anything can be formalized in Atlanta, Quinns task at hand is preparing Seattle to try and slow down Tom Brady and New England in the Super Bowl next Sunday.Ask around and you see why Quinn has become so appreciated in Seattle and why so many teams were eager to talk with him each of the past two years. Players and colleagues speak of his personality and work ethic. Quinn is not a screamer, but a teacher that no one wants to let down. Its why Seattles defence has been so successful. Its built on being physical and tough, but also the accountability that everyone is going to do their assignment. That directive starts with Pete Carroll, but gets passed through his coaches, like Quinn. Its a communication thing, Seattle middle linebacker Bobby Wagner explained. Its not, You have to be here. Its more, Why were you here? This is what I feel. What do you feel? and there is a middle ground. Versus maybe somebody just saying, This is what I want, and there is no ifs ands or buts about it. Its a communication (factor), its a trust factor and a belief factor. What Quinn has helped create is record setting. Seattle was one of three defences in league history to lead the NFL in scoring defence in three straight seasons. They were the first team since the Chicago Bears in 1985-86 to lead the league in total defence and scoring defence in consecutive seasons. The numbers Seattle has posted lend credence to the argument the Seahawks are among the best of this generation. He stayed true to who he is. Thats whats helped him be successful, said former Seattle defensive co-ordinator and current Jacksonville head coach Gus Bradley. Thats what hell do, Im sure, if he gets an opportunity to be a head coach. To that end, Quinns arrival in Seattle brought a different level of defensive aggressiveness. While Bradley was revered by his players, he was sometimes thought to be too passive. Some of that was situational. Bradley was coaching a defence that included Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and Wagner. They were talented and pointed toward success, but still very young.Quinn believed in that youth as long as there was a high level of accountability. He was willing to let Seattle play a significant amount of man-to-man defence with Thomas the only protection in the back. The rest of Seattles coverages are simplified. There isnt a lot of disguise and confusion with Seattles defence. In turn, the Seahawks play faster and are more efficient. When he came here after we lost Gus Bradley we didnt have an identity. I think (Quinn) came and gave us an identity, Seattle linebacker Bruce Irvin said. Respected us as players. Told us this is what we wanted, this is what he expected. Guys go out there and play for him. Hes a players coach. Petes a players coach so as long as you respect them and do what youve got to do theyll give you a little leeway.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap Puma Shoes China .Y. - Carey Price had an early feeling that one goal might be enough to settle the latest matchup between his Montreal Canadiens and longtime Original Six foe, the New York Rangers. You saw it tonight, Laich said. It was a pretty disciplined, structured game. The compete level, the attention to detail, the work ethic has to be in the game every day for us to have success.Patrik Elias scored and Cory Schneider had 25 saves while starting for the 25th time in New Jerseys 27 games this season. The Devils have lost eight of their last 10 and are 3-5-1 against Metropolitan Division teams. We want to find our identity at home, Adam Henrique said. We have to find a way to string some wins together.New Jersey dropped to 3-4-3 at Prudential Center, having played the fewest home games of any NHL team this season. If we dont have a great home record were not getting into the playoffs, Devils coach Pete DeBoer said.Washington took control with the two goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead.Beagle gave the Capitals the lead with his fourth of the season with 9:15 remaining in the period with a backhander past Schneider. Kuznetsov increased the advantage with a power-play goal from the right circle at with 7:20 left.We just wanted to stay on the gas, honestly, Laich said of the second period in which the Capitals outshot New Jersey 13-8. The first period, we thought we had a good period. We really felt we had our legs under us and found our game. We just wanted to stay with it.Laichs empty-netter with 23 seconds remaining capped the scoring.Washington finished 1 for 2 on the man advantage, while killing both of New Jerseys chances.ddddddddddddThe Devils had entered the game tied for 10th in the NHL in power-play success rate.During New Jerseys second power play, many of the announced 15,230 in attendance booed the man-advantage units before sarcastically cheering the Devils when they entered the Washington zone.Obviously, you never want to hear that, Henrique said. We were frustrated, too.The Metropolitan Division rivals traded early goals, as Alzner opened the scoring at 3:47 of the first period. He ripped a shot from the left wing circle past Schneider for his first of the season after Andy Greene was unable clear the puck from the defensive zone.Elias tied it 3:03 later when he knocked Dainius Zubrus shot over Holtby for his third of the season, and the 396th of his career. Elias, a career-long Devils player, is also five points away from 1,000.The Devils finished with an 34-29 advantage in shots on goal.Theyre a team that really gets to the front of the net and use their D a lot, Capitals coach Barry Trotz said. But for the most part we did a pretty good job and (Holtby) did a really good job for us as well.NOTES: New Jersey announced RW Damien Brunner cleared waivers. Signed to a two-year, $5 million contract last September, Brunner recorded 32 points in 77 games spanning the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. It wasnt working, DeBoer told reporters after the morning skate at AmeriHealth Pavilion. It is unclear if Brunner will report to New Jerseys AHL affiliate in Albany, N.Y. ... Both the Capitals and the Devils held their morning skates at AmeriHealth Pavilion instead of the Prudential Center because Seton Hall and Rutgers had the Prudential Center for a mens college basketball game at noon. ... NEW YORK, N.Y. - Alex Rodriguez tested positive for a banned stimulant in 2006, The New York Times reported Monday, an accusation denied by a representative of the legal team for the New York Yankees third baseman. The newspaper cited two unidentified people involved with baseballs drug-testing program. Baseballs joint drug agreement specifies the discipline for a first positive test for a banned stimulant is six additional unannounced drug tests over the year following the violation. A second stimulant violation would result in a 25-game suspension. Rodriguezs legal team accused MLB of leaking the allegation of a positive test, using a statement and making a filing to arbitrator Fredric Horowitz. Lanny Davis, a former Clinton administration official working for Rodriguezs legal team, denied the player tested positive, the Times said. James McCarroll, a lawyer for the three-time AL MVP, did not address whether Rodriguez had a positive test, only that he was not banned. "Alex Rodriguez was never suspended for use of stimulants or any violation of the MLB drug program," McCarroll said in a statement. "The fact that MLB has resorted to leaking federally protected medical information about a player speaks volumes of the weakness of their case against Alex — and their desperation to secure a win in the arbitration, at all costs." MLB chief operating officer Rob Manfred declined comment. "We were not the source for this story," MLB said in a statement. "We honour our joint drug program and never publicly disclose player test results until its publicly announced." In a statement Monday night, Davis called for a government probe into MLBs methods. MLB has admitted paying for documents and Rodriguezs lawyers have claimed baseballs representatives have intimidated witnesses. "U.S. authorities should initiate an investigation as to whether any federal crimes have been committed by MLB investigators as well as those in the Commissioners office who may have been complicit in this misconduct," Davis said. Rodriguez was suspended for 211 games by Major League Baseball on Aug. 5 under baseballs drug agreement for his alleged "use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and human growth hormone, over the course of multiple years." He also was penalized under the labour contract for "a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the office of the commissioners investigation." The three-time AL MVP was allowed to keep playing until the arbitrator decides a grievance filed by the players association to overturn the penalty. Horowitz has presided over eight days of hearings, which are scheduled to resume Nov. 18. "Alex has abided by the confidentiality rules of the arbitration process. MLB has not," McCarroll said. "In response to MLBs incessant leaks, Alex recently has even gone so far as to offer that the proceeding be opened to the media, so as to even the playing field — an offer which MLB promptly rejected, as they prefer to continue their one-sided flow of leaks, rather than having the weakness of their case exposed publicly by full and fair coverage. Every new step MLB takes wreaks of desperation, in its obsessive effort to bring Alex down." MLB and the union agreed in 2005 to ban many stimulants. The paper said it wasnt clear whether a failed stimulant test was introduced by MLB as evidence in the grievance. Rodriguez said when he arrived at spring training in 2008 that "last year, I got tested 9 to 10 times. ... We have a very, very strict policy, and I think the game is making tremendous strides." That would be an unusually high number of random checks but would be in line with a player subjected to additional tests resulting from an amphetamine violation. Later in the day, A-Rod said his comments were an "exaggeration to make a point." Sports Illustrated reported in 2009 that Rodriguez tested positive for steroids during MLBs anonymous survey in 2003, and A-Rod said two days later he used banned substances while playing with the Texas Rangers from 2001-03. TSN.ca presents its latest weekly power rankings for the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League staff. Rankings were weighted evenly between separate lists made by TSN Radio host and soccer analyst Gareth Wheeler as well as TSN.cas soccer editors. 1. Arsenal (Last Week- 2) The Gunners reclaimed the top of the table with a 4-1 victory over Norwich City.  Mesut Ozil was strong once again for Arsenal as he took a turn as provider instead of facilitator with two goals in the match.  Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere also both scored high quality goals. 2. Chelsea (LW- 3) A David Luiz mistake put Chelsea behind, but a strong response led them to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Cardiff City.  Samuel Etoo was allowed to score a controversial goal that turned out to be the winning marker, an Eden Hazard brace and a goal from Oscar provided the rest.  Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for berating an official. 3. Manchester City (LW- 4) Sergio Aguero scored twice and David Silva added a late insurance marker as City cruised to a 3-1 victory over West Ham.  Alvaro Negredo had another strong game as he continues to build a dangerous partnership with Aguero.  The victory moves Manchester City into the top four of the table. 4. Liverpool (LW- 1) Daniel Sturridge rescued a point for Liverpool after he fired home in the 72nd minute for a 2-2 draw against 10-man Newcastle.  Steven Gerrard converted a penalty for Newcastles other marker after Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was shown a red card.  5. Tottenham (LW- 6) Andros Townsend continued his solid play for Spurs as he and Roberto Soldado found the net in a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.  Townsends goal was actually meant to be a cross but ended up slipping past Villa keeper Brad Guzan for the opening marker.  He almost added to his tally a few more times before the final whistle but in the end settled for a goal and a strong performance. 6. Southampton (LW- 5) Adam Lallana scored in the 89th minute to give the Saints a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United.  Southampton was strong for stretches of the game and in the end walked away with a deserved point from the contest.  Keeper Artur Boruc was solid, delivering key saves throughout the game. 7. Everton (LW- 8) Back in the lineup and back on the scoreboard, Steven Pienaar returned after six weeks to give Everton a 2-1 victory over Hull City.  Kevin Mirallas opened the scoring in the eighth minute for Everton, Leighton Baines and Sylvain Distin were also strong in the victory. 8. Manchester United (LW- 7) The Champions once again were denied a win at home after a late goal forced them to settle for a 1-1 draw against Southampton.   Robin van Persie put his side ahead with a goal in the 26th minute, a lead they held until the 89th when they gave up the equalizer.  United is now eighth in the table, eight points out of the top spot. 9. West Bromwich Albion (LW- 11) The Baggies were not able to find a winning marker as they were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Stoke.  Youssouf Mulumbu was denied a penalty shout that could have decided the game if awarded.  Nicolas Anelka was brought into the game after the hour mark but he wasnt able to change his teams fortunes. 10. Newcastle United (LW- 13)  A back and forth contest left 10-man Newcastle with a 2-2 draw with Liverpool.  Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was sent off in the 40th minute and though Newcastle took the lead, they werent able to see it through to the end of the game.   Yohan Cabaye and Paul Dummett were on target in the draw for Newcastle. 11. Aston Villa (LW- 9) Andreas Weimann came closest to scoring for Villa but thats the best they could do in a 2-0 loss to Tottenham.  Christian Benteke came into the game in the 61st minute and also had some influence for the visitors but they werent able to crack the scoreboard. 12. Swansea City- (LW- 14) A dominant home performance led to a 4-0 victory for Swansea over Sunderland.  Jonathan De Guzman and Wilfried Bony both scored while the Swans also benefitted from two own goals in the win. 13. Hull City (LW- 10) Yannick Sagbos 30th minute marker was all the Tigers could muster in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Everton.  Injury to insult for Hull was losing Danny Graham to a knee injury, he is expected to miss three-weeks of action.  Abdoulaye Faye had two chances to grab at least a point for Hull but was not able to find the back of the net. 14. Fulham (LW- 18) After falling behind 1-0, Pajtim Kasamis wonder goal started a comeback that ended in a 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace.  Steve Sidwells goal that stood up as the winner was also a highlight reel marker but the Kasami goal is the one that could be goal of the year.  Dimitar Berbatov and Philippe Senderos also scored for Fulham in the win. 15. West Ham United (LW- 12) The Hammers had trouble dealing with the pace and skill of Manchester City, as they lost at home 3-1.  Ricardo Vaz Te scored the only goal for West Ham but was also defensively responsible for Sergio Agueros second which turned out to be the winner.  West Ham opened the game strong but in the end just didnt have enough to compete. 16. Stoke City (LW- 15) Stephen Ireland wasted the Potters best chance as they split the points with West Brom in a 0-0 draw.  Neither team was able to take control of the game as even the possession numbers were split down the middle at the final whistle.  Stokes four goals are the lowest total in the Premier League this season. 17. Norwich City (LW- 17) Jonathan Howsons 70th minute marker cast some doubt into the contest but in the end was not nearly enough in a 4-1 loss to Arsenal.  Norwich held out against the pressure from their opponents before giving up two goals in five minutes late in the game that sealed their fate. 18. Cardiff City (LW- 16) After taking a 1-0 lead over Chelsea, Cardiff slumped to a 4-1 defeat thanks to defensive mistakes and a controversial referee decision.  Keeper David Marshall was bouncing the ball when he was dispossessed by Chelseas Samuel Etoo leading to the winning goal.  Cardiff was not able to keep up with the pace of the game over 90 minutes. 19. Crystal Palace (LW- 19)  Adrian Mariappa opened the scoring for Palace before they were overrun by Fulham in a 4-1 loss.  From that point it was all downhill for the home side as they conceded twice before the half and two more times after the break. 20. Sunderland (LW- 20) After holding firm in the first half, Sunderland had a nightmare second half conceding three-goals in seven minutes as they fell 4-0 to Swansea.  Gus Poyets first game in charge of the squad was not one to remember as his team managed only one shot on target.  Two of the three goals were credited as own goals and the fourth marker was an 80th minute penalty. Will Hernandez Jersey . The 40-year-old midfielder was put in charge on Tuesday when David Moyes reign ended after 10 months with the defending champions in seventh place in the English Premier League. Kyle Lauletta Jersey . Which is to say, the top of this years draft class is not as dynamic or exciting as the 2013 class of Nate MacKinnon, Sasha Barkov, Jonathan Drouin and Seth Jones and its not as strikingly promising as the highly-anticipated 2015 slate of Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin. http://www.nygiantsproshop.com/authentic-kyle-lauletta-jersey.html . 9 Baylor Bears just needed some time to get on track in their first game after the Christmas break. Alec Ogletree Giants Jersey . -- Chicago manager Darold Butler has a message for the Windy City. MINNEAPOLIS -- The shots were clanking and the frustration was mounting for J.J. Barea during a three-game shooting slump that was getting him booed off his home court with regularity. With the lowly Milwaukee Bucks hitting everything in sight, Minnesota coach Rick Adelman gave Barea some time with the Ricky Rubio in the same backcourt, and the throwback lineup helped jumpstart Barea and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Kevin Love had 27 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and Barea scored 19 points to lift the Timberwolves to a 112-101 victory over the Bucks on Tuesday night. After going 5 for his previous 25, Barea hit seven of 10 shots to help wake up the sluggish Wolves and Kevin Martin scored 26 points to help them finish a four-game homestand at 2-2. After carving a niche for himself in this league as a helter-skelter, mini-shooting guard who thrives when playing alongside a bigger point guard, roster limitations have forced Adelman to play Barea as a more prototypical backup point guard this season. But Milwaukee plays a smaller backcourt, which allowed Adelman the chance to pair Barea and Rubio. "I love it. I miss it," Barea said. "I miss playing off the ball a little bit, especially with Ricky. When Im making shots, its great for our team." Brandon Knight scored 21 points for the Bucks (13-51), who led at halftime and were looking for their first set of back-to-back victories this season. But after scoring 61 points in the first half and leading by 11 points in the second quarter, the Bucks were outscored 19-4 to start the fourth quarter. "Fourth quarter, we couldnt really get anything going," said Bucks guard Nate Wolters, who had 14 points. "Weve had problems all year in the fourth quarter closing games. We gave ourselves a chance to win, having a lead going into the fourth, but just couldnt get it going and win." Rubio had 11 points and 10 assists and three steals for Minnesota. "J.J.s a great scorer and sometimes he needs to play the (shooting guard)," Rubio said. "But its hard to do it when they have a (big) two. But I like playing with him. He made shots today and he played a lot." The Timberwolves scored 30 points off of 15 turnovers by Milwaukee to offset some poorous defence that allowed the Bucks to shoot 52.dddddddddddd per cent. They trailed by six points at halftime, but Love and Dante Cunningham fueled the game-clinching run with a flurry of jumpers that pushed the lead to 105-88. "There was no pace and we let them get defensive stops," said Bucks forward ZaZa Pachulia, who had a career-high 10 assists with nine points and six rebounds. "They are one of the best teams in transition and they got out in front of us and got easy buckets in transition. We just werent able to get back." The Wolves (32-31) entered the game five games behind Memphis for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. In all likelihood, they kicked away their chance to make the post-season for the first time in 10 years with losses to the Knicks and Raptors earlier in this homestand. A loss to the worst team in the league at home surely would have ended any slim hopes that remained. The Bucks have been playing better basketball, at least offensively, since a trade last month brought Ramon Sessions and Adrien from Charlotte and sent disgruntled guard Gary Neal to the Bobcats. Even so, they were playing the second night of a back-to-back while the Wolves were playing their fourth straight game at home. The Bucks also were missing starting power forward Ersan Ilyasova because of a sore ankle. But as the Timberwolves have done all year long, they delivered a listless defensive effort to give their opponent life it had no business having. Milwaukee made its first 12 shots, the longest streak without a miss to open a game in the league this season, and shot over 71 per cent in the first quarter to jump out to a 33-22 lead. Barea made his first six shots in the second quarter, including a layup that tied the game at 49. NOTES: Wolters, from nearby St. Cloud, Minn., had a large contingent of fans who came both from his hometown and from South Dakota. Wolters starred in college at South Dakota State. ... Timberwolves F Luc Richard Mbah a Moute hosted a dozen young fans from the south of France. The fans made plans to travel to the U.S. to see him play for Sacramento against New York. But Mbah a Moute was traded to Minnesota in December, so he picked up the tab to change their flights. LOS ANGELES -- Shelly Sterling was reviewing bids from five groups interested in buying the Los Angeles Clippers, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The individual, who wasnt authorized to speak publicly about the deal, said if an agreement to sell is reached before next Tuesday, the leagues owners wouldnt meet in New York to vote on terminating Donald Sterlings ownership. The individual wouldnt specify the interested buyers, but described them as major players with considerable financial means. The person told the AP the sale price "appears to be increasing to an unbelievable number," and that it could soar past US$1.5 to $2 billion, and possibly more. Another person familiar with the negotiations said Shelly Sterlings lawyers, bankers and others involved in the process were in a locked room reviewing the bids, which were due by 2 p.m. PDT Wednesday. The individual wasnt authorized to publicly discuss the sensitive and competitive negotiations. Donald Sterlings lawyer, Bobby Samini, said there would be no sale of the team without Donald Sterlings involvement, though he declined to say whether Sterling was involved in reviewing bids or in touch with Shelly Sterling. "Mr. Sterling is an owner of the team, and there will be no sale of the team without his involvement," Samini said. But a May 22 letter obtained by The Associated Press and written by another one of Sterlings lawyers says that "Donald T. Sterling authorizes Rochelle Sterling to negotiate with the National Basketball Association regarding all issues in connection with a sale of the Los Angeles Clippers team." It includes the line "read and approved" and Donald Sterlings signature. NBA spokesman Mike Bass said the leagues advisory/finance committee met Wednesday by phone to discuss the separate responses from Donald and Shelly Sterling to the NBA on its efforts to terminate the Sterlings ownership of the Clippers. The first individual told the AP that the leagues owners know a sale couldnt be completed by next Tuesday. But if an agreement was in place, the NBA would give the Sterlings extra time before holding any meetings. The individual said the league hopes a voluntary sale would remove the potential of legal action being taken by the Sterlings. The person told the AP that at this point, with Donald Sterling saying he plans to fight the matter in court, the NBA intends to go forward with the meeting in New York on June 3. A forced sale would require approval by three-fourths of the leagues 30 owners. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has said he is confident he would get the necessary votes. On Tuesday, Donald Sterling issued a fiery response to the leagues attempt to oust him. The league charged that he had damaged it and its merchandising partners with his racist comments about blacks in a recording released last month. He argued that there is no basis for stripping him of his team because his statements were illegally recorded "during an inflamed lovers quarrel in which he was clearly distraught." According to the response, a copy of which was obtained by the AP, Sterling says girlfriend V. Stiviano recorded him without his knowledge, which is illegal under California law. He also said he could not have "wilfully" damaged the league because he did not know it would be made public. "We do not believe a court in the United States of America will enforce the draconian penalties imposed on Mr. Sterling in these circumstances, and indeed, we believe that preservation of Mr. Sterlings constitutional rights requires that these sham proceedings be terminated in Mr. Sterlings favour," the response said. Donald Sterling was banned for life and fined $2.5 million by Silver after the recording was made public. It is possible Shelly Sterling could complete an expedited sale of the team despite her husbands legal wranglings, according to Daniel Lazaroff, director of the Sports Law Institute at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. "She would have to be willing to go through with a sale that gave her absolutely no retained ownership interest in order to satisfy the league," said Lazaroff, a law professor at the school. "If she did that, I dont think the league would stand in her way. If she wants to retain any portion of ownership it wouldnt work." Even if Shelly Sterling accepts an offer, the league has the right to approve potential owners, a lengthy process that would almost certainly not be completed by next Tuesday. "The best case scenario is she finds a suitable buyer," Lazaroff said. "That would work for the league and from a financial standpoint that would work for the Sterlings. If the sale price is satisfactory, the smart thing might be to just get out. Hes a businessman who understands buy low and sell high." Donald Sterling purchased the Clippers for $12 million in 1981, making him the leagues longest-tenured owner. He argued in his response to the leagues charges that he cant get a fair hearing next week because the other owners have already made up their minds to oust him. Lazaroff noted that Sterling signed the NBAs constitution when he joined the league, and its bylaws spell out specific procedures for terminating ownership. He said as long as the league follows its own rules it should be on solid legal ground. "I could see a happy ending to this," Lazaroff said, "but it will depend on both of the Sterlings being out of the picture." Discount Salomon Shoes .
